***Soft DSP Design Methodology of Face Recognition System on Nios II Embedded Platform
Based on the emerging and significant Soft DSP technique, this paper develops Soft DSP of face recognition to boost Face IDentification (FaceID) embedded system without extra coprocessor cost and power consumption. This paper not only illustrates the HW/SW codesign methodology of Soft DSP of face recognition in detail, but also gives a step-by-step implementation tutorial on Nios II embedded platform. The measurement results of Soft DSP of face recognition can verify Soft DSP technique easily achieves faster processing performance than the pure SW technique. Soft DSP technique has been entitled to be the development mainstream of FaceID embedded system field.
**Managing Security in FPGA-Based Embedded Systems:
FPGAs combine the programmability of processors with the performance of custom hardware, and they are becoming more common in critical embedded systems. This raises interesting security implications, and new techniques are needed to manage security in FPGA designs. This article provides background on FPGA security problems and current research on reconfigurable devices and security. The authors also discuss their work to develop a set of security primitives and component architecture for building highly secure systems on FPGAs.
**Study of Embedded System Design Based on RFID Securities:
Embedded system design project based on RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) securities. The project adopts RFID to complete reading and writing tags, and embedded system to implement system control, communication, signal processing, showing results, human-computer interaction, and so on. Module of RFID is made of MFCR500 of Philips, AT89S52 of Atmel, and integrated antenna. The embedded system is made of S3C2410 as kernel chip from Samsung. The whole system integrates portable securities, communication, and distribution management.
**Embedded Multiprocessor Systems-on-Chip Programming:
Multiprocessor system-on-chip (MPSoC) platforms have found their way into embedded systems. The reason is a balanced combination of power efficiency with flexibility, which makes them cost effective compared to dedicated hardware or general-purpose platforms. However they're notoriously difficult to program because it's hard to develop programs that can exploit the parallel resources in such platforms. To help with cost effectively developing efficient code for an MPSoC system, a team of IMEC researchers has developing an MPSoC programming approach supported by a tool chain that enables the mapping of a single application on multiple cores. The tool chain consists of a tool that cleans C code so that it can be analyzed more efficiently, mapping tools that can manage memory hierarchies and generate source code for parallel threads, and a runtime library that abstracts the underlying hardware.
**Energy Management Using ZigBee:
Energy management has been one of the hottest issues in recent years. This concern has been raised as significant changes have been noticed in our daily lives. There is a continuous trend that the weather is getting warmer in future years. During summer, the hot and humid weather make air-conditioner a necessity which consumes much energy. These phenomena are regarded as continuous rather than temporary problems and therefore action has to be undertaken. Energy management is of the utmost importance for future development trend of building automation system reducing the cost of energy. From both environmental and economic aspects, the scarce energy resources have to be used efficiently to alleviate the existing problems. In this paper, our latest research and development in ZigBee will be demonstrated by applying energy management concept to alleviate the environmental problems.
**Dynamic Leadership Algorithm for Hierarchical Multi-Smart Robot Coordination in Atomic Power plants:
A multi smart robot should be able to analyze the situation faster and make appropriate decisions with minimal interference of the human in normal as well as in critical situations for performing various tasks. This is typically designed for the regions where there are high radiation emissions. The use of RFID tags makes the system work in the form of groups under a leader and they communicate among themselves. Pervasive computing provides smartness for the robot in efficient coordination, decision making, monitoring with more
leadership quality and common sense reasoning. In this paper a new dynamic leadership algorithm is proposed wherein a leader is elected according to the parameters taken into account. The objective is to make the system more remote, completely independent and more robust for exchanging information with increased degree of freedom.
**A scalable low-power digital communication network architecture and an automated design path for controlling the analog/RF part of SDR transceivers:
Emerging new wireless standards, the move towards multi-standard transceivers, and ultimately software-defined radios imposes the need for a tighter interaction between digital baseband and analog/RF parts. Software-defined radio transceivers may face more than 400 control bits in the analog/RF part [9][10]. Configuring of the transmit/receive chain to particular standards, monitoring of front-end performance, and dynamic control of front-end behavior requires a tight bidirectional interaction. We have developed a generic concept of a flexible and scalable low-power digital communication network in a multi-standard analog/RF front-end. Our approach is layout-friendly, reduces interconnect area significantly (by 96%) compared to a star topology, scales easily with analog/RF design changes such as pin additions, and exhibits a generic bidirectional interface to the system and digital designer. Moreover, an almost fully automated design flow - starting from an on-chip connection list for all analog blocks up to VHDL code generation - has been developed and implemented, reducing design effort and potential errors. The architecture and the design flow have been successfully proven in two 0.13-um full software-defined radio transceiver designs. In the first design, the flow was still manually instantiated. In the second design, the automated flow was used and led to a significant design-time speed-up.
**Robust Remote Authentication for Scalable Web-Based Services:
Remote authentication is an important security control mechanism for web-based services. Recent years, some remote authentication schemes based on smart cards were proposed. A new smart card based remote authentication scheme was proposed in this paper to enhance the robustness to meet the scalability requirement of most web applications.
